Preparing for 2009
The National Curriculum Board is committed to an open process and proper consultation with the profession and the public. The Board has consulted on the issues it raised in the National Curriculum Development Paper, released in June, and now sets down answers to its questions in a new document The Shape of the National Curriculum: A Proposal for Discussion (pdf 78kb).
The Board welcomes public discussion and comments of this discussion paper through email at feedback@ncb.org.au or by mail to: National Curriculum Board Feedback, PO Box 177, Carlton South, Victoria 3053. Formal consultation on the shaping paper will continue until 19 December 2008. The Board will determine its final recommendations in Term1 2009.
Advice
The Board recruited writers to work with small advisory groups to draft initial advice papers on the proposed curriculum. These papers were released in October and the Board received valuable feedback through submissions, individual responses by academics and teachers, national and state forums and responses received through email and letters. Framing papers build on this advice.
Framing papers
The framing papers for English, mathematics, science and history propose broad directions for what teachers should teach and young people should learn from Kindergarten to Year 12.
The purpose of the papers is to generate broad-ranging discussions in the community about the proposed directions and provide opportunities to comment.
Each framing paper is best read in conjunction with The Shape of the National Curriculum: A Proposal for Discussion (pdf 78kb) to provide a context for the shape of the curriculum overall.
Provide feedback
The Board welcomes feedback on the framing papers until 28 February 2009.
